Elphie was abandoned at a residence in rural Mississippi when her family moved away and simply left her behind.

Of the two dogs abandoned there, someone was willing to take the other—but Elphie had a horrific, untreated injury to her front foot, and no one wanted her.

By the time help arrived, the infection was so severe that her leg could not be saved. Elphie underwent an amputation, but this resilient little poodle mix hasn’t let life on three legs slow her down one bit. She has adjusted beautifully and is now thriving in her foster home.

Elphie is house trained, loves other dogs and has discovered that being an inside dog is pretty wonderful. Because of everything she endured while abandoned and injured, she does need to be fed separately from other animals—but otherwise, she’s ready to leave her painful past behind and find the family who will never leave her again.
